CCAST held an international symposium entitled Probing Matter in May 1997. The famous painter Chang Shana made a painting for the symposium named “Creation of Heaven", which has great potential and the deep meaning: “The vast exhibition of stars in the sky was supported by beautiful hands, and all things were born when heaven was created by art." This expresses the continuing searching for the secrets of matter and the universe. The painting of Professor Chang Shana, in which two female hands support the universe, symbolizes that the universe is created by the knowledge of mankind. The painting has a quiet but moving character and is a masterpiece.

1998, CCAST held an International Symposium on Early and Future Universe. Liu Jude was inspired by Zhuang Zi's essay Xiaoyaoyou, which says: “Praise the bird that named Peng (Roc), whose body extended several thousand miles long. When Peng flew, glorious to behold, His wings were the cloud in the sky, and all heaven rode on his back, nothing could contain him.” Professor Liu therefore painted a huge white roc with two spreaded wings symbolizing the universe as the poster for this symposium. This roc with its tremendous force and outspreading wings looks down from the top upon the earth, the wing feathers like vast clouds and vividly express the expansion of universe and the birth of the roc.

In November 1998, CCAST held two symposiums: “Discussion on the Combating of Desertification in regard to the Dust Bowl of April 16, 1998 in the Vast Area in Northern China” and “The New Idea of Solving the Problems of the Cutting of the Yellow River and the Shortage of Water in the Northern China". Chen Yadan has very strong concern on the ecological environment of the mankind. She investigated deeply in the Luobupo Gobi Desert following her late father's footprints. She painted the “Everlasting Poplar" as the main theme poster of these two symposiums for calling the attention to the problem of desertification.
